Kidney Kamp Experience
Have you ever held the hand of a child who is homesick for the first time? Have you ever witnessed the joy of a child getting his first strike when bowling? What about even the most timid of kids climbing rock walls and flying through the air on a zip line? No? Well, then you probably weren't at Western PA Kidney Kamp, and you really missed out....
Each year there is a theme for kamp. This year saw the kampers with "Helping Hands. Helping Others". Two local charities – the Ligonier Food Bank sponsored by St Michael's Church and the Action for Animals – Humane Society animal shelter were chosen to benefit from the kids week of competition. While contests and competition brought each team points, the end result was a donation to both charities.
The Special Friends of Western PA Kidney Kamp Award this year was presented to Carol Lesnick and the staff DCI-Mt. Pleasant for all they do to provide quality care for the campers that require hemodialysis.. Lisa Maurer, Social Worker, Andy Johnson, Nurse Manager and Carol Lesnick, Administrator were present at the Thursday evening dance to accept the award.
